Nerds. Because that's just what nerds do.
The Libertarian Association of Ireland is an unincorporated association dedicated to promoting the public education of libertarian ideas, influences, and tendencies in Irish culture, intellectual heritage, and history. We aspire to do this absent of one overbearing political ideology or ethnic chauvinism - but with a decidedly Irish perspective.
Why an Irish perspective?
Because unfortunately much of what passes for discourse on libertarianism is often a trojan horse for peoples' cultural preferences and prejudices. We're just being honest about our main interests - we're not trying to disparage yours. Although attempts have already been made to superimpose ready-made libertarian thoughts onto an Irish context, more often than not these seem crude parodies of retrograde 'West-British' or knee-jerk lefty anti-everything spiels. We wish to encourage a greater and wider debate about libertarianism in Ireland that will take advantage of both their extremely rich and varied histories and heritages; we wish to propogate sturdy native strains of thought that will flourish in our historical and cultural environment, rather than arrogantly trying to graft on a limited variety of alien and noxious strains seemingly designed to provoke only antagonism.
